Most people in my personal life know that my best friend of 26 years died by suicide in 2017. It was devastating, and honestly, just writing that sentence feels shocking and unreal even after seven years. I have participated in my agency's annual event "Let's Walk, Let's Talk... Stepping Together to Prevent Suicide" since it started in 2009, and now I'm the lead organizer. It is a meaningful task to me for so many reasons. While my main goal is to raise awareness around suicide prevention, I am also seeking to raise funds toward my organization's mission of saving lives.
