I have always been open about my struggles with mental health with friends and family. However it took me a while to realize the extent of how bad the situation actually was until I started writing poetry in order to attempt to express the thoughts going through my head. I’d like to share this poem with everyone as an insight:
Broken.

Emptiness fills the void inside.
Will I be better off if I just died?
My body In the mirror, so broken and fragile
Me, myself, and I. The unstoppable battle.
One day I’ll get through this
I’ll say I’m enough
Until then I’ll push through, and act like I’m tough
Deep down inside I’m falling apart
On the outside it looks like I’m a piece of art.
People tell me im perfect, pretty and thin
However to me, I will never win.
The heavy pounding of my heart fills my chest.
That deep dark hole, takes away my breath.
What have I done so wrong in my life,
For people to always walk out of my life.
I give them my all, meanwhile I’m always the one who falls, with no one to pick me back up.
They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,
But yet, I have never felt so wrong.
It comes down to the day where I have to debate,
Do I have more time left? Or is it too late...
I’ve come to the conclusion that I will never be enough
Therefore, I’m tired of acting so tough.
I’m broken inside.
A puzzle that can not be completed,
due to all of its missing pieces.
Those pieces can only be found by me,
However, I don’t have that in me.

This poem was written during my most vulnerable state. There are thousands that struggle daily with mental health in silence. You are not alone. You are loved. And you are stronger than you think.
Share with your family and friends.
