Most people in my life know that my best friend of 26 years died by suicide in 2017. It was devastating, and honestly, just writing that sentence feels shocking and unreal even five years later. I have participated in my agency's annual event "Let's Walk, Let's Talk... Stepping Together to Prevent Suicide" since 2008, but this will be the first year that I am the lead organizer. It is an exciting and meaningful task for so many reasons, but difficult and painful at times too. While my main goal is to raise awareness around suicide prevention, I am also hoping to raise money that will support my organization's mission of saving lives.
