I do this work against FGM because it is not about me; it is about the innocent girls and the women still suffering from PTSD in post-FGM life. I am participating in the Walk to End Female Genital Mutilation. Money raised from this event will be used to help Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation open a special center for women, girls, parents and the community. Female genital mutilation is the intentional removal of the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. Many girls die daily as a result of FGM. 85% of maternal and infant mortality in Africa is the result of FGM. Now, FGM is being practiced here on American soil in many states. We want it stopped in the world, and most importantly in the United States.
