This year, as we gather for the 16th Annual MN Brain Tumor 5k, I am proud to celebrate a significant milestone in my journey - 11 years of being free from a brain tumor.
"If I can beat a brain tumor, what makes you think I’m going to let life beat me? Even through the ashes of overwhelming obstacles life has thrown my way, I’ve come out stronger, better, and more determined than ever."-Nyleve Eiram 2025 updated from "If I can beat a brain tumor, what makes you think I’m going to let life beat me?"-Nyleve Eiram 2017
It was on May 2, 2014, that I was diagnosed with a sub-ependymoma brain tumor, and thanks to the skilled hands of Dr. Mendez and his team, the tumor was successfully removed on May 6th, which also happened to be the day I discovered I was pregnant with my now 9-year-old son. My journey has been one of resilience and determination, and I have made it my mission to spread hope and awareness through my speeches and writings, including my book 'How I Survived a Brain Tumor?' available on Amazon.
This cause is deeply personal to me, and I am thrilled to be participating in the 5k for the 6th time. As we come together to support this important cause, I am reminded of the staggering statistics - nearly 700,000 people in the United States are currently living with a primary brain tumor, and over 69,000 more will be diagnosed this year.
These tumors can have a devastating impact on quality of life and change everything for patients and their loved ones. That's why it's crucial to support research and find ways to prevent brain tumors. I kindly ask that you sponsor me today and help make a difference in the lives of those affected by this disease.
100% of every dollar raised from this event will go toward important brain tumor research, through the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research & Information, Inc. 100% of event costs are generously paid for by local and national sponsors.
