Happy spring! May 8 is World Ovarian Cancer Day, and in spirit with that, I will be walking on Sunday, May 5 with my team, The Marvels, at the 11th annual Beverly Levy Discovery to Cure Walk. This event raises funds for the Discovery to Cure Program of the Yale School of Medicine Gyn/Onc Department for research and clinical care of reproductive cancers. Research is progressing, especially to better understand the genetic factors of these diseases, and to find new treatments, but we’re still a long way off from developing key tests for early detection and a cure for all. Discovery to Cure supports the remarkable researchers and fine clinicians in these crucial endeavors.
As you know, I have been so very fortunate to have had no recurrence of my ovarian cancer in the 11 (!!) years since my chemo ended. I remain deeply grateful to Yale’s Gyn/Onc team for the care I’ve received. I’m determined to support their efforts to continue research and fine clinical care by participating on the Discovery to Cure Walk Committee and raising funds from supporters like you.
As always, I dedicate my walk to my bff Ellen, of blessed memory, who taught me the signs of ovarian cancer. And, as always, I walk for my granddaughter Ida, my daughters Liz and Johanna, and all others who depend on this research for their healthy futures.
Please consider making a donation this year, and, if you’re able to, please join team The Marvels, and walk and celebrate with me on Sunday, May 5!
Funds raised will be going to Discovery To Cure, a program of the Yale School of Medicine. Money will be used toward helping to create continued provider education, early detection protection programs, personalized care & cutting edge research for cure and prevention of women’s reproductive cancers.
