About BCGW
Bikur Cholim of Greater Washington is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit, volunteer-based service organization that provides a safety net for patients and families facing medical challenges. Bikur Cholim is transliterated from the Hebrew meaning visiting the sick. At BCGW, we take it much farther. Our goal is to learn the best ways to support the people who need our help and try to provide compassionate, personalized care in a confidential, professional manner.
BCGW was founded in 1997 and since then has grown into a powerhouse organization in the Greater Washington region. BCGW is well known for its hospital pantries, the Bernard Creeger Bikur Cholim House, Lunzer Food Program and so much more.
Our mission is to support patients and their loved ones so they can focus on healing. By sending nutritious meals, providing social connections, peer support, practical advice and resources as well as direct financial assistance. we help people stay financially afloat and emotionally strong during some of the hardest times of their lives.
BCGW provides wrap around services in order to care for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the ill, the elderly and their caregivers in the Jewish community. BCGW partners with health-care professionals to help meet the unique needs of Jewish patients. BCGW supports and maintains kosher pantries at area hospitals and provides ongoing community education to promote awareness of the Jewish value of Bikur Cholim (visiting and caring for the sick).
BCGW serves the Greater Washington DC community, as well as patients who travel to the region to seek medical treatment at area hospitals and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). BCGW owns and operates the Bernard Creeger Bikur Cholim House, a home of hope and healing for patients and their family members. The Bernard Creeger Bikur Cholim House is located in Bethesda Md across the street from the National Institutes of Health.
By offering all our services without cost, we free people to focus on their recovery without additional financial stress. BCGW depends on fundraising activities like MitzvahCycle 2020 to keep our programs and services up and running.

About MitzvahCycle 2022
BCGW rolled out MitzvahCycle for the very first time in 2016. An awesome group of cyclists of differing abilities came together for the dual purpose of having a blast (check!) and raising awareness about and funds for Bikur Cholim of Greater Washington support services (done!) We had great weather (which we plan on having again this year), great food (oh yeah) and a spiritual high (prayer comes in many forms). It was a no-brainer that we would try to make it a tradition. MitzvahCycle is a great ride but it is so much more. It is an opportunity to meet and connect with BCGW volunteers and recipients and to support individual physical, emotional and spiritual health goals as well as those of our broad community. At the first celebratory BBQ cyclists and friends of cyclists will gather together, raise each other's spirits and reaffirm our commitment to helping those in need and to a bright and beautiful future for all.
Things are different this year. We have added walking and running options and will be having family-fun activities at the event.
