Sarah's Cause Inc. 501(c)(3)
The Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Foundation was created by the Orton family to memorialize the loving life of their five year old daughter, Sarah. Sarah Jayne loved all animals and lived her short life doing all she could to help and care for them. For her fifth birthday, Sarah specifically asked that all birthday gifts be given as donations to Baltimore Humane Society, the shelter where her own dog, Scooter, had been adopted before Sarah was even born. This selfless little girl felt she had all she needed — a loving family and warm home. For her, the best birthday gift you could give was one that helped the homeless animals.
Sadly, Sarah passed away suddenly due to sepsis in October of 2013, just a few months after her fifth birthday. To honor this sweet little girl’s life, the Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Foundation was created. All donations to the Foundation go to the care of the animals at Baltimore Humane Society’s no-kill shelter.
Sarah’s favorite color was “rainbow.” We all take comfort in knowing that Sarah is now with her beloved pets at the Rainbow Bridge looking down and smiling that her legacy lives on.
On Sarah's would-be 6th birthday in May of 2014, the first Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Walk was held to remember Sarah and raise money for the Baltimore Humane Society. The Orton family has held at least one event every year. In 2016, the event changed names to "Paws For A Cause In Memory of Sarah Jayne Orton" and grew in size and officially has a home in Upstate NY. The event that year raised nearly $10,000. Shortly after the conclusion of the event, we were kindly asked to rename the event by a similarly named organization and in 2017 the event is now known as "Sarah's Cause For Paws"
Sarah's Cause, Inc. is officially it's own 501(c)(3) organization in 2017 and any and all funds raised now is distributed to different animal shelters between upstate New York and Maryland. The Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Foundation remains at the Baltimore Humane Society for direct donations as well as that was setup directly with the BHS. Please consider donating to either organizations. Thank You!
And the wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. ISAIAH 11:6-9
