3. What is the schedule for the trip?
Male rowers should arrive 10:15-10:30am at the Mariner Point Park: 100 Kearney Drive, Joppa, MD 21085.
The men's Row-A-Thon will launch at 11:00am.
The women's Row-A-Thon will launch at 1:30pm. Please arrive by 12:30pm.
Eat a hearty breakfast that morning. The gala barbecue will be waiting for you when you complete the race!
4. What are the age requirements to participate?
8-14 year olds need to row together with an adult (18+). 12-14 year olds - in two-person kayaks - can be exempted from the requirement to boat with an adult if a parent signs a special waiver, verifying that their son or daughter has the stamina and skill to complete the trip. Single-person kayaks are only available for adults. Please note that all rowers must weigh at least 50 pounds.
5. Can women join the Row A Thon?
Yes! There will be a separate run for women that will begin at 1:30. Participants should arrive at 12:30pm. There will be a place for women to change into dry clothing at the end of the run, before returning to the barbecue and festivities. Special water-proof bags will be provided so that dry clothing can be taken with you on the boat. Women should wear fully tzniyus cover-ups over their bathing suits, and then change into their regular clothing before returning.
6. What supplies will I need at the Row A Thon?
Boats, paddles/oars, and life jackets will all be provided. You will just need proper swim attire, sunscreen, footwear and a towel.
7. What Does Pledging to the Row-a-Thon Mean?
By committing to this event, and pledging to raise money for its success, you are helping raise invaluable funds to enhance the Torah learning, excellence in education and engaging programs that are uniquely available at our yeshiva.
Your gift ensures that each student who walks through our doors has the resources to embrace his own individual strengths.
When you support one of our rowers, you equip a talmid with the knowledge and energy to flourish.
We wish you all the success possible. Train, set and achieve new goals, enjoy the trip… and get all the sponsors you can, so when you cross that finish line, we will all be winners – you, and all of the students at Yeshivas Toras Chaim!
8. How can my sponsors submit payment?
Online contributions can be made by credit card on the rower’s personalized page found on this website. Just make sure to tell your sponsors to select your name from the list of rowers.
9. I am concerned that I might not be able to raise the required funds. Will I be able to do it?
Even if you've never raised money before, our materials and strategies will make it easy for you to solicit and collect sponsorships from friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, and others. Just remember to make your pitch personal as well, as you want them to know that they are sponsoring YOU and YOUR efforts! And, as many companies offer charitable donation matching programs, make sure to ask your sponsors to check with their employers, as it will help you meet your goal ever more quickly.
Even if you don't raise your total goal, as long as you raise or donate $250, you can join this amazing event.
10. What is different about this year's Row-A-Thon?
There are single and double kayaks available only. There are no canoes. There will be fewer community activities as the event will be more focused on our participants.
We will be rowing down the Gunpowder River and back. The river is tidal, flat water. This means that there will not be a current pushing you along.
11. Do You Row Alone or as a Team?
Either! Participants can boat alone or create their own team with other boaters.
12. I have never gone kayaking down a river. Will I be able to do it?
Absolutely! As long as you are in reasonable shape and know how to swim, 2 hours of rowing is a nice trip but not so much that you need to worry about it. Even first-time boaters will enjoy the trip.
13. Is there a refund/exchange policy?
If a donation was made accidentally or mistakenly for the wrong amount, simply make us aware of the issue and we will be happy to make any necessary refunds, changes or corrections. Otherwise, race registration fees and donations are not refundable.
14. Is parking available?
Yes, but everyone is encouraged to carpool, as requested by the park manager.
