I am participating in the Walk to End Female Genital Mutilation. Money raised from this event will be used to help empower women and girls through education to eradicate gender based violence. Female genital mutilation is the intentional removal of the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. At least 8000 girls are mutilated daily in the world. Many girls die daily as a result of FGM. 85% of maternal and infant mortality in Africa is the result of FGM. Now, FGM is being practiced here on American soil in many states. We want it stopped in the world, and most importantly in the United States.
