MY STORY
The day has forever been ingrained in my brain.  The day that I was pulled to a telephone while Caitlyn was in an MRI machine and told that she had a large brain tumor and that we would have to go straight to Children's following her scan.  We were told that a team of people was gathering and would be waiting there for us.  I remember breaking down in the waiting area of the MRI clinic.  Our pregnant nurse helped us carry all of our things out to our car and she was crying the entire way.

But those tears have turned into tears of joy in this house.  Caitlyn is a thriving, remarkable young lady who has overcome so much.  We were told that she had an "aggressive tumor" that had fingers reaching out into her brain.  We were told that she could come out of surgery not walking, not talking, not breathing.  Caitlyn does all of those things and is incredibly smart, reading at a level beyond her grade level and holding sophisticated conversations.  We are so, so grateful for the team of doctors that got her here.  For the prior research that guided the hands of Dr. Nagib, her neurosurgeon.

We do still live with a daily "What if" because Caitlyn was diagnosed with a Grade 2 atypical choroid plexus papilloma.  This means that her risk of this tumor coming back is greater.  However, so far she is a remarkable 6 years out, and we are so grateful for each moment that distances from her diagnosis.

There are so many other families out there enduring a brain tumor diagnosis.  So many tumors that don't have the same results, that NEED research.  We would be so grateful if you would help those families to receive treatment, to receive a cure like Caitlyn.

We are so excited to participate in the 2023 MN Brain Tumor 5K! Money raised from this event will be used for brain tumor research.

Today nearly 700,000 people in the United States are living with a primary brain tumor, and more than 69,000 others will be diagnosed this year. Brain tumors are often deadly, impact quality of life, and change everything for patients and their loved ones.
