As most of you know, on November 18, 2015 we lost our sweet Zayne due to an umbilical cord incident 7 days before his expected due date.
We were shocked to find out that in the United States, 26,000 babies – 71 per day – are stillborn – 10 times more than the number of SIDS deaths. One in 160 American pregnancies ends in stillbirth. Worldwide there are over 4 million stillbirths each year. More than half of these babies are at a viable gestational age and could have been saved if we only knew how to recognize that they were in trouble. For most the cause is never known and these babies appear to be healthy. Unfortunately, there has not been enough attention or funding for stillbirth research. More research is desperately needed to identify the silent causes of stillbirth and develop prevention strategies. Stillbirths can be prevented, but more research needs to be funded! We are hoping to be able to do a small part by hosting this event and with your participation we will make a difference!
Our HOPE for this day, is not only to honor Zayne’s memory, but to also honor all of the lives of babies taken too soon due to some kind of preventable incident. As residents of the greater Houston area, we know that many other families around us have suffered the same kind of loss, and we are hoping that these families will join with us to honor their babies and help raise funds for more research thru the Star Legacy Foundation. Our HOPE is that eventually these needless tragedies will be prevented and unheard of, so that no family has to tell a story similar to Zayne’s. Please come and join us to honor and celebrate our beautiful babies that were lost in the blink of any eye and to help bring awareness to stillbirths.
All money raised for this event will be donated directly to the Star Legacy Foundation (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This organization is dedicated to stillbirth awareness, research, education, prevention and family support. Star Legacy Foundation is a community of parents, families, and friends of stillborn babies who are dedicated to reducing the number of families impacted by stillbirth, a needless tragedy.
Thank you for all your support,
