For most of you, this may be the first time you had to organize an event without live participants. Encouraging people to join and fundraise may be a challenge, but by focusing on the pros of virtual events, adjusting your expectations, and, finally, highlighting the importance of your cause, we believe you will be able to call 2020’s fundraiser a successful one.
Benefits of Virtual Events
Convenience. Training and participation can be done from anywhere at any time.
Cost. There is a much smaller overhead and less to plan, less stress on event day.
Celebs. This is an opportunity to get influencers or well-known athletes involved.
Creativity. This is the time to showcase an idea you’ve been wanting to implement. People are excited by the new opportunities Covid-19 has given them.
Ideas for Events:
Run/walk near your home
Read-a-thons
Car parades
Virtual comedy shows, concerts, tours
Birthdays and other milestone fundraisers
Alumni events
Keep in mind:
Be encouraging and positive
Livestream or record your event
Have a super clear goal. Even if the amount you’re asking for is smaller, you must define what you’re asking people to contribute to, especially throughout difficult financial times
Invest in your donors. Send out some swag or a participant kit so your participants have something tangible from your organization.
Reward participants. Offer prizes for reaching fundraising milestones or recruiting over 10 people to your team.
Personal thank yous. There’s a lot of stress going around these days. Show your gratitude with a special thank you video or personal letter.
