MY STORY
We are so excited to participate in the National Walk To End Brain Tumors - New Egypt. One hundred percent of the money raised from this event will be used for brain tumor research.

Gerardo was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (GBM) brain cancer  on April 15, 2016.  That was the day our world changed course forever,  just as our retirement dreams where almost in our grasp.

His only symptom were intense headaches for about a week prior to his doctor ordering a brain MRI.  He was hospitalized the same day.  He received a craniotomy to remove a tumor on his left parietal lobe, radiation, and 18 months of Temodar chemo. We then enjoyed 12 months of stable MRI’s even though he continued with headaches and nausea.  Then came the December 2018 MRI which showed a recurrence. He has tried several chemotherapy agents, some of which he suffered severe abdominal issues, abdominal surgery,  many hospital admissions, and left sided weakness requiring him to use a walker for months, then a cane which he continues to use.  He currently is waiting for his blood counts to come up so he can start the next round of chemotherapy. He received the latest treatment for GBM,  a tumor treating field called The Optune device  in Oct of 2019 which he continues to use in hopes it keeps the GBM from progressing any further while waiting for a cure to be developed.

Doctor visits, MRI’s, chemotherapy,  speech therapy, physical therapy , and holistic therapy are all part of Gerardo’s world to win more time for a cure to be developed.

This brain cancer journey is a true test of endurance and perseverance.  Gerardo is a strong, calm, and fearless warrior in this fight.

Today nearly 700,000 people in the United States are living with a primary brain tumor, and more than 69,000 others will be diagnosed this year. Brain tumors are often deadly, impact quality of life, and change everything for patients and their loved ones.

Please consider joining us or sponsoring Team Gerardo with whatever support you can.
