The Coat Trekker Challenge

Coats For Cold Kids (a Leeba Gavriella Fund Initiative) presents The Coat Trekker Challenge on December 20th - 21st, 2014. The Trek starts at Moshav Nocham, our staging area, minutes outside of Bet Shemesh at 22:00 (10 pm)! The Coat Trekker Challenge gives participants the opportunity to relive history and trek the steps of 35 young, courageous Israeli soldiers as they tried to break the siege on Gush Etzion by foot nearly 67 years ago.

The Leeba Gavriella Fund has many initiatives that attempts to secure and better the lives of poverty stricken families that struggle every day with different life challenges. From extreme circumstances (crises) to day-to-day challenges, The Leeba Gavriella Fund is there to support poor families through initiatives like Coats For Cold Kids. The Coat Trekker Challenge is your chance to challenge yourself this year by not only giving of yourselves to help shield kids from the elements of winter but by also experiencing an inspiring historic event of the reestablishment of the state of Israel!

For years Israeli Teens have walked these historic footsteps to relive the night these 35 soldiers experienced. For the first time those from studying in Israel from all over the world will also have the same opportunity to become Coat Trekkers and hike the footsteps of the famous 35 with Israeli peers. As a Coat Trekker, you can expect:

  • The safety you would expect from any tour whether it be medical or security.
  • A personal discovery of history by actually trekking the same route and leaving at the same hour so you see, hear and feel it as the soldiers did.
  • Unique event shirt
  • Custom Online Fundraising page and sample language for email, facebook and tweets.
  • Fascinating tour guides to make you feel as though you were with the 35 heroes.
  • Refreshments at the staging area and a festive breakfast after Shacharit.
  • Brilliant Audio Visual Presentation Of The Fall Of Gush Etzion (Etzion Block)
  • Commemorative Photo
  • And being part of a family of participants who will experience the same emotional and challenging trek.

How to Participate

To secure your place as a Coat Trekker, each participant is required to raise a minimum of $300 for the opportunity to participate in The Coat Trekker Challenge! There are only 100 slots available for each trek (mens and womens separate), and they go to the first people who register. If you are not 18 years of age or older, a parent or legal guardian must sign a permission statement. You can even make a team. The Team that raises the most money will be asked to take part in a special ceremony and will help us discreetly give these coats to the kids who need them.

Can't Participate? Register as a “Coat Potato” – No Fundraising Minimum

Even if you can't make the actual trek you can still take part of this amazing event by raising funds with no minimum! Whether you would like to join a team of your friends, yeshiva, midrasha, or other organization that has been created or going it alone, registering as a “Coat Potato” allows you to fundraise and support the event without having to get off your couch or out of your dorm room. While this registration type does not have a fundraising minimum, we will provide you with your own personal fundraising page as well. If your team raises the most funds you, too, will be asked to join them at the ceremony (if in Israel) and to give out coats to the children.
