Our Mission
Playworks is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for safe, meaningful play. Independent studies verify that Playworks dramatically reduces bullying at our partner schools, increases time for teaching, and inspires students to behave better both at recess and in class. Our programming provides as much as 30-45 minutes of daily physical activity at recess and throughout the school day by including and engaging each and every child in healthy play. Currently in Houston, TX, Playworks operates in 18 Title I schools reaching over 16,513 children at our partner schools for the 2014-2015 school year. Playworks is able to function at this level of success because of the support of generous donors. Proceeds from Walk for Recess will go to support Houston Area children by providing healthy, inclusive and physical play to Houston schools.
